Department of Animal Science
Animal Breeding is a field of science that provides the necessary information for knowledgeable and modern animal breeding in general. It is a field of science that provides the necessary information about the breeding, care, breeding and health protection rules of animals, taking into account animal welfare and behavior in order to obtain more yield from farm animals and thus to perform efficient and profitable animal husbandry; and tries to develop new information and techniques in this field. The Department of Zootechnics deals with the morphological and physiological characteristics of farm animals, their care and management, the genetic levels of yields and the ways they are genotypically developed, the collection, analysis and interpretation of measurable or countable information, and the principles of business management and economy.
It has adopted the mission of introducing the various characteristics of animals to Veterinary Medicine students, teaching the technologies and new developments used in animal production, herd management, breeding methods followed in increasing the yields of animals, and animal welfare, behavior and breeding diseases, conducting research on these issues and supporting breeders.
The department offers compulsory courses in Animal Welfare, Animal Breeding I, Animal Breeding II, Animal Husbandry and Livestock Business Economics as well as elective courses in Cattle Herd Management and Planning within the Veterinary undergraduate program. In addition to theoretical education, the courses given in the department also include practical courses. In addition, there is a laboratory in the department where various studies are conducted. The units in the Animal Husbandry Application and Research Center are used for research and education purposes. In addition to these units, the Research Institutes and Agricultural Enterprises affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the private sector livestock enterprises are the main research and application areas.
Animal Breeding Department aims to train undergraduate and graduate students who are equipped with up-to-date information and technology in the field of breeding and breeding, who can transfer the information they have learned to the field, who aim to reach new information, who can identify problems in the field of animal husbandry and produce solutions, to conduct research and to support breeders.
